This Read Me file provides information about updating the GlobalFax software for your PowerPort 500 and Duo series fax/modem.

Important: This updater package is for use with PowerPort 500 and Duo series internal fax/modems and GlobalFax 2.5. The updater was not designed for and should not be used with Global Village TelePort fax/modems, with Global Village fax/modems for PowerBooks other than the 500 or Duo series, or with versions of GlobalFax earlier than 2.5.

About This Updater Package
This updater package provides enhancements and corrections for PowerPort 500 and Duo series fax/modems with GlobalFax software versions 2.5. Some of the improvements provided by the updater package include:

• Compatible with the PowerPC 500 and Duo series PowerBooks.
• Improved compatibility with third party extensions.
• Increased throughput with Apple's Remote Access software.

Important: After downloading and decompressing the updater package, do not move or rename any of its components. Follow the instructions for updating the GlobalFax software, below.

Updating the GlobalFax Software
This section describes how to update your GlobalFax software.

Note: Global Village recommends that you perform the GlobalFax update from your hard disk rather than from a floppy disk. If you wish to perform the GlobalFax update from a floppy disk, you must rename the floppy disk "PP500Duo Updater" (no quotation marks) and then drag the contents of the PP500Duo Updater folder to the disk. To update the GlobalFax software:

1. Double-click the Installer application in the PP500Duo Updater folder.
2. Click the Continue button.
3. Click the Install button. The Installer checks to see if GlobalFax 2.5 is installed. If GlobalFax 2.5 is installed, it will be updated to version 2.5.5. If GlobalFax version 2.5 is not installed, or if software components are missing, you cannot proceed. Use the original Installer Disk that came with your PowerPort fax/modem to install GlobalFax 2.5 and then proceed with the update.

Note: If you disabled any GlobalFax extensions or control panels with Extensions Manager, NOW Startup Manager, or a similar utility, use the same utility to enable the components that you disabled. Then proceed with the installation.
