What is new in the 56K PC Card 2.0 for Windows Software
The Ethernet driver has been optimized for better performance. You should see significant speed difference with the 2.0 version. The inf file has been rewritten to increase the chance of the 56K PC Card receiving a COM slot in the 1-4 range and a more compatible IRQ assignment.

Who should install the 56K PC Card 2.0 for Windows Software
Anyone with a laptop running Windows 95 OSR2 or better.

How to install the 56K PC Card 2.0 for Windows Software
Downloading the software and making a floppy

  1. Before you start, you need a blank formatted disk.
  2. Click the disk icon on this page.
  3. You will start downloading the 56K PC Card software.exe file.
  4. Chose directory to download the file to.
  5. When finished downloading double click the 56K PC Card software icon.
  6. Click next and chose and installation directory, leave it at a:\ to make a floppy disk of this software.
    • NOTE: It is highly recommended that you leave the installation directory to copy to your floppy drive. Although you can copy these files to any directory of your choosing, Windows 95 Plug in Play will work better if the files are on a floppy diskette.
  7. Click finish to copy the files to your specified direcotry.

If you haven't installed the GV 56K PC Card software before:

  1. Power on your Laptop and start Windows 95.
  2. Insert your GV 56K PC Card into any available PC Card (PCMCIA) Slot.
  3. Windows' Plug and Play Hardware Wizard will detect the PC Card.
  4. Insert the new 56K PC Card 2.0 for Windows disk and click next.
  5. Click Finish.

If you have older versions of the 56K PC Card for Windows software installed:

  1. Open the control panel from the Start : Settings menu.
  2. Double click the System Control Panel.
  3. Click on the Device Manager tab.
  4. Double click Multi-funcion adapters.
  5. Select Multi-function PC Card Parent.
  6. Click remove and click OK.
  7. Close the System Control Panel.
  8. Go into your Windows : INF folder.

    • NOTE: If you don't see the INF folder go to the view : options menu, click on the view tab and select show all files.

  9. Delete GVPCMDM.INF, GVPCNET.INF, DRVDATA.BIN, and DRVIDX.BIN.

    • NOTE: viewing the window by detail and sorting by type makes this easier also ".INF" or ".BIN" may not be present in the window.

  10. Go into the WINDOWS : INF : OTHER folder.
  11. Delete the GLOBAL VILLAGE COMMUNICATIONGVPCMDM.INF file.
  12. Follow the steps in the previous section
