What's New in the GlobalFax Software

  • New Serial Port Arbitration: Traditionally, when GlobalFax was set to receive faxes it would periodically open the serial port every four seconds and momentarily check for a ring indicating an incoming fax. The beauty of this method was that it allowed other communication applications, such as AOL and Remote Access to access the serial port while GlobalFax was set to receive faxes. Unfortunately, this method used to check faxes became problematic with the introduction of the "Bronze keyboard" G3 PowerBooks because Apple changed the way the OS handles the serial ports (internal modems are powered down when not active). This also holds true for the iBook , "Sawtooth" G4, and the new "Slot-loading CD" iMac. To address these problems, GlobalFax now has three methods available to check the serial port for a ring. Most users will find the new "Default Ring Detection Method" acceptable for use on their Macs (prevents modem from being powered down when set to receive faxes) and few will need to change this setting.

  • Fax Archival: Fax Archival is a new feature that allows sent/received faxes to be moved from the Spooled Faxes and/or Received Faxes Folders to an Archived Faxes Folder. This can speed up the launching of Global Village Fax Center because the Received and Scheduled fax lists will be shorter and will thus draw quicker. This feature requires Appearance Manager 1.0.1 or higher which is included with Mac OS 8 and higher, or can be added to Mac OS 7.6.

  • 10- and 11-Digit Dialing: GlobalFax software has been upgraded to allow for 10- and 11-digit dialing as this is or will soon become a requirement in some US area codes.

  • Multiple Station Ids: GlobalFax now supports separate fax headers when a different location is specified (Office, Home, Other).

  • Improved Imaging: Fix for poor or "jaggie" fax imaging of fonts and imported images in PostScript applications.

  • Custom Cover Sheets and ClarisWorks: Fix for disappearing or blank custom cover sheets created in ClarisWorks.

  • Fax Center and Display Show Century: Fix for Fax Center log cosmetic problem when Show Century is enabled in the Date & Time control panel.

  • "Stretched" Forwarded Faxes: Fix for "stretching" of some faxes received in Standard resolution from dedicated fax machines.

Installing the Software

After you download and extract the Installer, do not move or rename any files or folders from the installer archive. This will prevent the Installer from running. Please read the file named Read Me - GlobalFax for last-second tips and instructions for installing the software relative to the version of GlobalFax you currently have.

Downloading the Software

This updater is only for GlobalFax 2.6.5 which was purchased as a stand-alone application for the iMac or G3 Macintosh computers with an Apple internal modem.

The Installer is one self-extracting archive.
